How we tested

Every form builder claims to be the best. Few survive 60 hours of real use. For this comparison we ran the same 5 tasks on each tool: (1) build a 15-question waitlist form with conditional logic, (2) embed it on a WordPress site, (3) connect it to Slack and Google Sheets, (4) collect 100 test responses, and (5) export and analyse the data. We scored each tool on price, feature depth, build speed, embed quality, integration breadth, and polish.

1. CraftForm — best overall free

Price: Free forever with unlimited forms and responses. Paid plans from $9/month add team features.

Strengths: Unlimited free plan, conditional logic and analytics included, no signup required to start building, pixel-perfect embeds on every major host, native integrations with Slack, Zapier, Make, webhooks, Notion, Google Sheets. The builder is fast and the conversational mode rivals Typeform.

Weaknesses: Newer brand, smaller template library than Jotform (but growing weekly).

2. Typeform — best UX polish, but pricey

Price: Free for 10 responses/month. Basic $39/month, Plus $79/month, Business $99/month.

Strengths: Beautiful one-question-at-a-time UX that set the standard for online forms. Huge template library. Mature integrations.

Weaknesses: 10 responses/month free is painfully low. Conditional logic is paywalled behind Plus. Price compounds fast for small teams.

Best for: Well-funded marketing teams who need brand polish and have a $500/month budget. Not for creators.

3. Tally — cheapest good option

Price: Free with unlimited forms and responses. Pro $29/month adds branding removal and a few features.

Strengths: Genuinely free, notion-like UX, fast and clean. Good integrations with Notion, Airtable, Google Sheets.

Weaknesses: Limited design customisation. Not as many field types as CraftForm or Jotform. No full-blown conversational mode.

Best for: Notion users and creators who want something simple and free.

4. Jotform — the feature monster

Weaknesses: Free plan is restrictive. UI feels dated. Pricing jumps quickly with responses.

5. Google Forms — free but basic

Price: Free (with a Google account).

Strengths: Free, tied directly to Google Sheets, zero learning curve.

Weaknesses: Dated UI, limited design, no conversational mode, no drop-off analytics, clunky embeds.

Best for: Internal surveys and quick data collection where design does not matter.

6. Fillout — power user favourite

Price: Free for 1,000 responses/month. Paid plans from $15/month.

Strengths: Deep Airtable integration, advanced logic, good polish. A real contender for product and ops teams.

Weaknesses: Response cap on free kicks in fast for public forms.

7. Paperform — design playground

Strengths: Visually creative, markdown-based editing, good for landing-page-style forms.
